KHUZESTAN & SUSA

FROM EARLY Neolithic times this fertile region has attracted settlers,  it is believed to take its name from the KHUZ, a tribe probably already in occupation when the Achaemenians arrived to make this the province they knew as Susiana (the land of MILK & HONEY)
Elamites, Achaemenians and Sassanians all built royal cities here  often one above the ruins.
The most important and strategic rivers, THE KARUN, THE KARKHA and the DIZ play important role of fertility of this region.
The are3a covers southern Iran from Khoramshahr and Abadan in the southwest to Chah Bahar and Guatr in the southeast.
Iran the three coastal provinces Hormozgan, Bushehr, and Khuzestan are hot and humid all year round, the only truly pleasant time to visit them is NOVEMBER to MARCH.

SUSA (Alt. 71m) 880 Km far from Tehran

It dates back to 6000 B.C the tablet of Hammurabi, now in the LOUVER museum was discovered among the relics of ancient palaces.

Ancient sights:

A fortified castle and the ziggurat chogha-Zanbil temple, the tome of Daniel and Haft Tapeh.
